Times Tables

Every week you will be given a times table target, with the challenge differentiated to reflect the progress you are making in class.

Time table tests take place on a Friday.

Questions are delivered orally (giving you approximately 3 seconds to answer) with the aim that you can recall these key facts quickly and accurately without hesitation.

Techniques to help you learn times tables:

  • Chant them (once 2 is 2 etc)

  • Sing the times tables songs we are learning in class, make up your own songs, dances and actions!

  • Chant them forwards, backwards, randomly (It may help to have them written in front of you to start with so that you can chant in rhythm correctly. Then remove or cover facts as you get more confident.)

  • Have flash cards – play pairs with them (eg. 16    4x4)

  • Put your tables up around your bedroom – chant them looking at the tables – take one table down each day – still look to where it had been displayed as you chant as this will help you visualise it.

  • Online games

  • Race against someone at home or do random tests, making sure you recall the facts quicker each time
